According to various web sites, Google is set to launch Gbuy sometime at the end of June (most likely June 28). This next chapter in their quest for Internet (or world) domination could/will eventually compete directly against paypal. Gbuy.com was originally registered in 2001 by Markmonitor.com (a domain name buying company who they use for several other domains) so like most other google projects, this is something that has been in the works for sometime. The Wall Street Journal reported last February (2006) that Eric Schmidt (of google) has claimed the service will only be used for Adwords customers but many people are sceptical of this (including ebay/paypal) . With new services being launched such as googlebase, the new google video store and the google page maker (and eventually probably an e-store type of system will come out of this) - and paypal representing 24% of all internet payment transactions - it is inevitable that gbuy will eventually be an alternative payment solution to paypal.
