A little too late for Yahoo.

Last week I finally tried out Yahoo's new Ajax enabled email system. In beta mode for about a year now, it has some neat features like drag-and-drop features and preview etc. to make it closer to Outlook or Thunderbird. But it is really really slow (for me at least). I think it needs a little work still before it can really contend against the speed of Gmail.
